Exciting New Electives for EXCEL Days

The DC Homeschool is excited to present a fresh selection of elective classes for 5th through 8th grade students participating in EXCEL Days this year. Students in 5th through 8th grade will have the opportunity to CHOOSE ONE elective course from the list of elective choices. 

This year’s offerings are:

Find the Leader Within You – Dr. Dave Rough

This course will be aimed at 5th through 8th graders with the goal of helping them develop leadership skills in their lives. Topics like creativity, responsibility, decision making, planning, negotiations, and teamwork will be part of the leadership training. Biblical leadership will be studied as well as historical leaders that will provide examples of both good and poor leadership effectiveness. Parents will be provided with some ideas and suggestion for building leadership skills in the lives of their children. A mixture of games, multi-media, lectures, and group activities will be used to communicate important leadership skills.

 Literature Class – Debbie Oliver

Novels will include The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and a third selection. 

Math Practice & Tutorial – Caren Barnes

Students will practice and review math concepts by participating in games and activities.  Students will be encouraged to bring problems and questions to class for us to work on and practice.

Spanish

According to the 5th International Congress on Spanish Language, it is estimated that the worldwide number of Spanish speakers is between 470 and 500 million, making it the third most spoken language by total number of speakers (after Chinese and English).This class will introduce students to the basics of the most popular Romance language.
