Principal’s Pen by Tara Lee
Tucking my son into bed over the Christmas break, our conversation turned to the ONE special thing he wanted for Christmas. Short of purchasing another gaming system where my children could be the controllers, my son could not articulate any other significant desire. The gaming system wasn’t an option, as we already have enough video games to last a lifetime. Leaving my son snuggled into his bed that night, a familiar yet uncomfortable feeling began to grow in my spirit: we have SO much!
I enjoy shopping for Christmas and hunting for the gifts which will excite my family. The busy crowds, long lines, and traffic don’t bother me! This year, however, as I parked my car and walked into each store to find a gift for my children, the feeling growing in my spirit was convicting and undeniable: it’s TOO much, isn’t it Lord?
Christmas was wonderful this year, although I struggled to successfully balance the inherit tension as we concentrate on what we want versus what we want to give Christ for His birthday.
For a while the Lord has laid it on my heart to participate in a mission trip with my children. I want our family to see another perspective of life...a perspective where children aren’t guaranteed an education, where water may not be plentiful or where food may be scarce. Coming back from the Christmas break, as a matter of obedience, I decided to plan and lead a Dayton Christian Homeschool mission trip where families could serve together.
Here is the focus:

Is this something the Lord is pressing on your heart? Would you and your family like to join me as we serve those less fortunate? Would you prayerfully consider whether some or all of your family would like to join me on this trip? For me, I have to go to be obedient to the Lord. But I would love to serve with you and your family!
